Legacy Customer Profile: Maggie Glezer
This year marks the 31st Anniversary of Ski With Kim (SWK), meaning Kim has skied with A LOT of people, in A LOT of places. Kim's passion is to share her love of skiing with others. As a tribute to the people who have made this dream possible year after year, we are highlighting some of Ski With Kim's most loyal customers.
For the ninth installment, Ski With Kim profiled Maggie Glezer
How long have you been skiing with Kim?
MAGGIE - 7 Years! My first trip with Kim was to Vail. I am a pretty typical SWK client: I grew up skiing and loved it, but my husband and kids do not ski (bad early decision on my part). Now that my kids are grown and out, I can justify taking time for a ski vacation for just me.
Why do you like SWK?
MAGGIE - I absolutely love SWK! First of all, there’s Kim herself, a stunning, fun, fascinating, inspirational, force of nature. Second, spending time with like-minded women, both skiers and instructors, is so rewarding. I have met so many amazing women. The discussions alone we have on the chairlifts, at meals, and in the evenings are worth the price of the trip. Life changing! Finally, I happen to love learning and to continue working on my technique. We get to ski with the best instructors who really put their all into taking care of us, guiding us, and teaching us. SWK trips are pure heaven from start to end!
Most Notable Trips?
MAGGIE - I think my all-time favorite memory, or at least my most iconic memory, happened on my very first SWK trip in Vail. Kim and our instructor took our group on a small trail to the head of something that looked completely vertical, moguled, and rocky—Prima Cornice. Almost all of us found this absolutely terrifying, but this is where Kim and her instructors really excel. We stopped at the top, and in such a calm, reasonable voice, Kim showed us in a few simple safe turns how to get down and even to survive it. It wasn’t fun, it wasn’t pretty, but I did it. I can’t even explain what a huge boost it is to this day to know I could!
Things you have learned from skiing with Kim or the people you meet on her trips?
MAGGIE - I love to try to ski moguls, but am not at all good at them. So this is what I really like to work on in SWK clinics. After our group had skied all morning with wonderful Ruth (this is Vail again), she took us to a pretty bumpy run with a good layer of powder. Somehow, the ski goddesses were with me, and I skied that run like I have wanted to my whole life—without hesitation, rhythmically, completely letting go, yet staying in control. The best part is that Ruth saw my run and couldn’t stop cheering! I don’t think I have ever skied moguls like that since, but once in my life is good enough for me!
How do you feel supported by Kim and others on trips?
MAGGIE - I must feature the amazing instructor Laura, besides her arsenal of fantastic jokes and anecdotes, she is a very caring person and experienced teacher. I had a pretty bad ski accident (I was skiing way too fast and recklessly) and I almost gave up skiing. I decided instead to return to the sport I love, but to ski much more carefully and with my speed in check. On maybe my second day back, Laura spent a whole morning with me, and took me back to The Run. With her by my side, I skied it just fine! I felt so cared for and so nurtured! For someone who is used to doing all the nurturing, this was an incredibly welcome feeling and brought me fully back to skiing.
Other benefits of your experiences with Ski With Kim?
MAGGIE - Besides all of the camaraderie and friendship, information and inspiration, fantastic side benefit of SWK is that it keeps me pursuing fitness all year, just to be in shape for my SWK trip. I do work out normally, but a few months before ski season, you can bet I am seriously upping my game.
I have to stay fit—I want to ski like Kim!!!
